Martin Jarvis

Martin Jarvis is an emeritus professor of health psychology in the Department of Behavioral Science and Health at University College London. He has been researching tobacco and nicotine use for the past 40 years. Jarvis served as chair of the U.K. government’s technical advisory group on tobacco and health as well as deputy chair of the scientific committee on tobacco and health. He was also a specialist adviser to the House of Commons health committee’s inquiries into tobacco and health and into smoking in public places. He is a trustee of Action of Smoking and Health. He was a member of the World Health Organization’s study group on tobacco product regulation for some years. He was awarded an OBE in 2002, and he received the Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco’s John Slade Award in 2008.
