Valerie Briggs Solomon

Valerie Briggs Solomon is managing counsel, R&D and regulatory, at RAI Services Co., part of Reynolds American Inc. (RAI), an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of British American Tobacco. Among other responsibilities, she supports the R&D and scientific and regulatory affairs functions and advises the RAI Group on state, federal and international regulatory compliance. Prior to joining the RAI Group in 2010, Solomon was in private practice in Washington, D.C., where she counseled clients in the food, medical device and pharmaceutical industries on various regulatory, litigation, policy and business matters.

Solomon previously served as vice president for health care research at a New York-based investment, advisory and consulting firm. She is a member of the Food and Drug Law Institute’s Tobacco Products Committee, and she serves on the board of two nonprofit organizations in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, USA. Solomon received her Bachelor of Arts degree in history from Yale University and her J.D., cum laude, from American University Washington College of Law.
